Motivational interviewing is a counseling approach designed to assist individuals to identify/resolve ambivalence about alcohol and/or drug use, and support efforts to change it. This presentation is designed to deliver communication skills to promote, and self acknowledge changes needed in recovery/addiction behaviors.  

Target Audience

This knowledge-based course is intended for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Learning Objectives

A. Identify how to utilize motivational interviewing in sponsorship, intervention, and counseling

B. Explain the O.A.R.S. tool

C. Use a practical application of oars in daily communication

D. Apply open-ended questions and reflective listening as a communication tool

Loren Beck, LADC, PRS, D-CS joined Palmetto's staff in February 2020 and currently works as a counselor and supervises counselors in training. Loren has over 20 years of experience working in Residential Substance Abuse Treatment. He believes in the ability to bring hope and lasting recovery to individuals and families suffering from addiction through evidence-based treatment and focusing on the maintenance of recovery through emotional, physical and spiritual health.
