Each program track is designed to support achievement of the following ASHP PGY1 Residency Goals & Objectives (Competency Area R4: Teaching and Education):
• Goal R4.1: Provide effective medication and practice-related education.
- Objective R4.1.1 (Creating): Construct educational activities for the target audience
- Objective R4.1.2 (Creating): Create written communication to disseminate knowledge related to specific content, medication therapy, and/or practice area
- Objective R4.1.3 (Creating): Develop and demonstrate appropriate verbal communication to disseminate knowledge related to specific content, medication therapy, and/or practice area
- Objective R4.1.4 (Evaluating): Assess effectiveness of educational activities for intended audience.
• Goal R4.2 Provide professional and practice-related training to meet learners’ educational needs
- Objective R4.2.1 (Evaluating): Employ appropriate preceptor role for a learning scenario
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
A certificate of achievement will be awarded after all program requirements are completed and reviewed. Residents will select 1 track of emphasis for the program year. The academic track is designed to prepare residents for a clinical faculty position at a college/school of pharmacy, while the preceptor track is designed to prepare residents for a clinical preceptor role. Canvas, an online learning management system, will be utilized to facilitate the delivery of the RTLP.
Academia Track
- Attend and actively participate in a one-day workshop session on the Auburn or Mobile campus. Additional locations in Birmingham or Huntsville may also be available.
- Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 8 am – 5 pm CST
- Attend and actively participate in five (5) additional workshops throughout the year conducted live via Zoom on the following Fridays from 2-4 pm CST
- Introduction to Academia: September 26, 2025
- Teaching Philosophy & Terminology: November 14, 2025
- Difficult Student Situations: January 23, 2026
- SoTL Journal Club: March 20, 2026
- How do you…? Tips from Preceptors and Teachers: TBD in May
- Complete the following precepting-specific activities:
- View AU HCOP Preceptor Orientation Modules (on-demand, asynchronous)
- Serve as a co-preceptor for an IPPE or APPE rotation for at least 2 weeks
- Create and deliver two (2) unique classroom-style teaching activities for different audiences
- Student pharmacists in a classroom setting for a non-experiential course
- Audience other than student pharmacists (e.g., other healthcare professional students, peers, nurses, other licensed professionals, laypersons)
- Participate as a facilitator of an HCOP course activity on at least one (1) occasion.
- Grade at least two (2) assessment activities for HCOP courses
- Complete one (1) elective activity (e.g., readings/podcasts, etc.) related to teaching and learning identified by the resident or suggested by RTLP faculty
- Develop and revise a teaching philosophy statement considering your ideal pharmacy practice, desired teaching practice, and precepting/teaching values
- Complete requested documentation and reflections on the above activities
Preceptor Track
- Attend and actively participate in a one-day workshop session on the Auburn or Mobile campus. An additional location in Birmingham or Huntsville may also be available.
- Saturday, August 23, 2025, 8 am – 5 pm
- Attend and actively participate in three (3) additional workshops throughout the year conducted live via Zoom on the following Fridays from 2-4 pm CST

- Complete the following precepting-specific activities
- View AU HCOP Preceptor Orientation Modules (on-demand, asynchronous)
- HCOP Preceptor CE program (webinar – live or recorded): Live date: Sunday, September 14, 2025
- Serve as a co-preceptor for an IPPE or APPE rotation for at least 4 weeks (consecutive or cumulative)
- Create a document including the core 4 syllabus components for the respective IPPE or APPE rotation (i.e., objective, calendar, activities/assignments list, activities grade distribution)
- Create and deliver one small-group precepting activity to student pharmacists (e.g., topic discussion, orientation-based topic session, etc.).
- Create and deliver one (1) teaching activity for an audience other than student pharmacists (e.g., other healthcare professional students, peers, nurses, other licensed professionals, or laypersons)
- Either grade one (1) assessment activity for HCOP courses or participate as a facilitator of an HCOP course activity on at least one (1) occasion.
- Complete one (1) elective activity (e.g., readings/podcasts, etc.) related to teaching and learning identified by the resident or suggested by RTLP faculty
- Develop and revise a teaching/precepting philosophy statement considering your ideal pharmacy practice, desired teaching practice, and precepting/teaching values
- Complete requested documentation and reflections on the above activities.
Application Information:
- All application materials and the program fee will be due by Thursday, July 31, 2025.
- Program Application (anticipated time to complete: 10-15 min):

- First, register or log in.
- Enter the ACCESS Code: AURTLP2025 (Case sensitive)
- Add the course to your shopping cart and check out.
- A program fee of $100 will be required with application materials (paid by the program or resident directly unless the resident is part of a program that takes Auburn IPPE/APPE students). Programs that work with our students or are establishing an agreement to do so will receive a coupon code. The code will be emailed separately to RPDs of qualifying programs.
- Once enrolled in the course, you will need to complete two items
- Your application for a 1-year instructor appointment is included in a brief survey (10-15 minutes).
- You will also need to upload a signed letter of support from your RPD. The letter (application signature page) is attached to this email.
- We ask that you upload an image. This image will exclusively be used by RTLP faculty to put a face with a name and not in any public-facing way without obtaining permission first.

- Hello, my application for a faculty appointment has been submitted in Ethos. I have requested a copy of my transcript (excluding ungraduated courses) from the pharmacy school I graduated from to be sent to [email protected], with the attention of Hailie Phillips if a name is needed when you request it.
- OR - I am an Auburn HCOP graduate; please request a copy of my transcript from the university. (We can request transcripts for HCOP graduates.)
- Please find the following items attached to complete my application as requested.
- A current CV
- A copy of the front and back of my driver's license (for this and to request access to the AU library).
- Completion of the application process and approval can take 3-4 weeks. You will not be able to teach students or obtain access to the RTLP Canvas Course Website until this application is completed, the above items are provided, and all are approved by the Provost’s office.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
RTLP faculty will be available on Wednesday, July 9th, from 4-5 pm CST during a scheduled Q&A Zoom meeting (https://auburn.zoom.us/j/85723628847) to answer any questions about RTLP.
In mid-to-late August, residents will receive an Auburn University user ID and an invitation to the RTLP Canvas Course. At that time, we will email additional instructions regarding Canvas.
We encourage RPDs or mentors to routinely inquire and report on progress during preceptor meetings to support residents and help them meet deadlines.
