A Matter of the Heart: Primary Prevention of ASCVD Events
With recent updated recommendations from the U.S. Preventative Services Taskforce (USPSTF) regarding aspirin and statin therapies for the primary prevention of ASCVD, this presentation aims to provide the audience with an overview of these recommendations along with the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) 2019 guidelines for ASCVD primary prevention.
Target Audience
This knowledge-based course is intended for Pharmacists within the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. An access code is required to enroll in this program.
Learning Objectives
1. Recognize risk factors associated with the development of clinical ASCVD
2. Utilize a risk calculator to estimate the 10-year ASCVD risk of a patient
3. Recommend appropriate statin +/- aspirin therapy for the primary prevention of ASCVD

Dr. Shelby Buller was born and raised in southern Minnesota before attending South Dakota State University. While in pharmacy school, she was a pharmacy intern in an inpatient pharmacy. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2020 and her Pharm.D. in 2022. Dr. Buller’s areas of interest include anticoagulation and inpatient psychiatry. After completing her PGY-1 residency, Dr. Buller is considering a PGY-2 in psychiatry or continuing her career at the VA as a clinical pharmacist. In her free time, she enjoys baking, crocheting, watching movies, reading, and finding new coffee shops to enjoy.
