Stick to the facts: A review of GLP-1 RAs and GLP-1 RA/GIP- Kristi Kelley
Within the healthcare setting, nurses play a crucial role in assisting patients with conditions treated by glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RAs) and GLP-1 RA/glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIPs) such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. Given the rise in the prescribing of these agents and the frequent use of these medications as treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes, it is important for nurses to possess comprehensive knowledge regarding the following: the different types of GLP-1 RAs/GIPs, specific indications, proper preparation and administration techniques, medication contents, proper storage, warnings/precautions, potential side effects, and strategies for managing these side effects.
