Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment and Prazosin Use
This presentation encompasses the guideline-directed medical treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the use of prazosin for PTSD-associated nightmares. The guidelines that will be referenced are the VA/DoD 2017 PTSD guidelines, American Psychological Association 2017 PTSD guidelines, and a position paper by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine published in 2018.
Target Audience
This knowledge-based course is intended for Pharmacists within the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. An access code is required to enroll in this program.
Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the symptoms associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and their impact on daily function
2. Review current guideline recommendations for the treatment of PTSD and PTSD-associated nightmares
3. Compare guideline recommendations for the use of prazosin in PTSD-associated nightmares versus current literature
4. Synthesize a treatment plan for a patient with recurrent PTSD-associated nightmares

Her current interests are ambulatory care, management, and academia. Following her PGY1 year, her goal is to become a clinical pharmacist at the VA. She is passionate about teaching and advancing the profession of pharmacy. Leah’s interests include listening to live music, exercising, and spending time with her family and two pups.
